1, Introduce yourself, tell us about you, what you do, why did you start blogging?
I’m Becca. I have 2 year old twins and I mostly look after them. I started blogging, because I wanted to work from home and because I felt like I had a lot to say and I wanted people to read it! I’ve only been blogging since July, but I love it so far!
2. How do you spend Xmas day?
With family. I love Christmas and I love having lots of family around me. This year, we’re spending Christmas day with my husband’s family and then we’re having my family over on Boxing Day. Our day usually revolves around food and presents and this year will be extra special, because the twins understand a lot more this year.
3. Best money saving tip for Xmas?
Confession time. I’m terrible at saving money for Christmas. I always go over the top. But I think people sometimes forget that Christmas is the same day every year. It’s much easier to budget if you spread it out over the year. I start buying presents early in the year and I try to buy as much as I can when it’s on sale.
4. What present would you love to receive if money was no object?
A holiday! We haven’t been abroad since we got married in Jamaica on New Year’s Eve 2012. So nearly 6 years! We’ve booked a week away in October next year, but I’d love a big family holiday a bit sooner than that.
5. Breakfast on Xmas morning usually consists of?
Chocolate. We don’t really do a fancy Christmas breakfast. Once we’ve woken up and done the presents thing, I usually get started on Christmas dinner and it would be too stressful to cook breakfast at the same time, so we usually end up eating chocolate coins or selection boxes.
6. Do you do anything special on Xmas Eve to celebrate?
We always have a Christmas Eve buffet at my husband’s parent’s house. We’ve done that every year for the last 13 years. Now that we have the twins, we take them to see our final Santa (we see a few…) In the morning and then go to see my in laws for the rest of the day. We try not to be too late home, because the twins have their Christmas Eve box before bed, we watch a Christmas film and drink hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. And then I have a photo taken with the twins in front of our Christmas tree.
7. Favourite Xmas song and why?
I’m not sure I have one. I love them all!
8. Favourite festive film?
Santa Claus: The Movie. I just love it. We watch it every year on Christmas Eve. My husband does not share my enthusiasm for it, but he doesn’t have a choice. You don’t mess with tradition.
9. Who do you spend Xmas with?
Always family, but it varies. Christmas Eve is always my husband’s family and Boxing Day is always my family, but we tend to alternate on Christmas Day. I like to stay at home and do the cooking, so some years my family come to us and some years my husband’s family does.
10. What does Christmas mean to you?
For me, Christmas is about spending time with family and eating great food. I love the magic of Christmas and I love that I get to share that with my children this year.
Do you think we have lost the original meaning of Christmas?
Probably. It’s definitely very commercialised now, and I think people can get hung up on that. But I just love how magical it is and we’re trying to teach the twins about being kind and enjoying time together. If by “original meaning” you mean the religious side of Christmas, I can’t really comment on that, because I’m not a Christian, so Christmas has never been about that for me.
