Introducing Rachael, our 9th Day of Xmas Guest blogger, lets hear about her Xmas plans:
1. Introduce yourself, tell us about you, what you do, why did you start blogging?
Hi everyone I’m Rachael. I just turned 30 in November and I love in the fabulous North East of England with my husband. I work in Public Relations and really enjoy my job. I had been thinking of starting a blog for about 18 months but hadn’t had the time to really get something set up so once things settled down I took the plunge. I’ve been blogging for over a year now and I write about a little bit of everything.
2. How do you spend Xmas day?
This depends on if we spend it up in the North East with my family or if we go down to Lincolnshire to spend it with Steve’s family. Either way it’s a family day that involves presents, laughter, lots of food and fun!
3. Best money saving tip for Xmas?
Spread out your shopping so you don’t but it all last minute or struggle to afford it all. I know a lot of people who start shopping in the January sales! I write a list and have a general idea of what I am getting for who before I hit the shops so I don’t panic buy or forget what I’ve already bought! I think it’s important to not get carried away so try to stick within a budget.
4. What present would you love to receive if money was no object?
I feel really lucky and fortunate so I think I’d just like more quality time with my family and friends!
5. Breakfast on Xmas morning usually consists of?
Again this depends where we are but I don’t like anything huge as Christmas dinner is a feast! I like to have a croissant and some juice so I have something on my stomach. If I’m up here in the North East I usually scoff my satsuma from my stocking before I dive into my presents and then have a little bit of chocolate before Christmas dinner too.
6. Do you do anything special on Xmas Eve to celebrate?
We can be travelling so again this depends but I love getting my new Christmas pyjamas on, watching a film with the family and chilling out. My husband usually has last minute wrapping to do which I get roped into helping with! I like to go to mass too when possible.
7. Favourite Xmas song and why?
The Pogues Fairytale of New York it’s one that’s a family favourite and I can remember dancing round the living room with my mam and dad when I was little and it’s just stuck for us really.
8. Favourite festive film?
I love Miracle on 34th Street (the remake with Mara Wilson) and both Home Alone and Home Alone 2 get me feeling in the festive spirit.
9. Who do you spend Xmas with?
We take it in turns to spend Christmas with my family in the North East one year and then down in Lincolnshire with Steve’s family the other. This year it’s our turn to stay up here so we’ll spend Christmas Eve at our home and then Christmas Day we’ll be at my parents’ house. My mam, dad and brother will be there as well as my nana and cousins. I’m really looking forward to it. We’ll then go down a few days later to see Steve’s family so we get the best of both worlds.
10. What does Christmas mean to you? Do you think we have lost the original meaning of Christmas?
Christmas to me is all about family and of course celebrating the birth of baby Jesus. I try to get to church over the Christmas period where we can which depends upon travelling and so on.
I think to some extent we have lost the original meaning of Christmas. I don’t think the shops should be open on Boxing Day, having worked in retail myself you work crazy hours up to Christmas Day you should get a couple of days off to celebrate with your family too.
